Colgate’s A8+ bested all other crews on the day

HAMILTON — The Colgate women's rowing team opened its fall season with a home dual on Lake Moraine hosting Hamilton College on Saturday.

Colgate launched four crews Saturday morning for the home opener. Each crew raced twice around Lake Moraine, the first race around 2.2 kilometers and the second 3.3 kilometers, to round out the day.

COACH LISTER'S COMMENTS
"Hosting a race is really special for our team that often travels to our races and Lake Moraine served as a great host for our crews and our guests Hamilton College. We raced around the lake with many turns in preparation for the upcoming Head of the Charles. We were tested by the steady head winds that gave some challenging conditions. Our focus is on adapting to the obstacles that come our way. We also focus on situational awareness. I am really proud of the effort put into our races today. And can't wait to see how we do at the bigger regattas!"

RACE ONE
The Raiders' A8+ crossed the line with the fastest overall time of 8:14.5, besting Hamilton's competing entry by five seconds (8:20.1). Colgate's B8+ was third to finish among the eights (8:52.1), placing ahead of both Hamilton's second varsity eight (8:56.6) and third varsity eight (9:16.0).

With no competing fours from Hamilton, Colgate sent two of its own 4+ crews to compete in the head race against each other. Due to equipment issues in the B4+, the A4+ was the only crew to cross the line finishing in 8:23.1.

RACE TWO
The course stretched an extra thousand meters for the second round of racing and produced similar results. The Raiders' A8+ clinched the top spot with a time of 14:10.0, followed by the Continentals, who finished six seconds later at 14:16.8. Colgate's B8+ maintained its lead over Hamilton's second varsity eight (15:24.5) and third varsity eight (16:11.5), finishing in 14:44.0.

Colgate's B4+ made an appearance in the second round of racing, but fell to the A4+ crew. The A4+ earned a time of 14:12.3 followed 34 seconds later by the B4+, which crossed in 14:46.5.

UP NEXT
The Raiders travel to Boston, Mass. next Saturday to compete in the well-renowned Head of the Charles regatta in the women's club four, championship four, and club eight events.
