Three Boats Compete at Head of the Charles

Club four boat finished 10th out of 53 crews

BOSTON, Mass. —  Colgate women's rowing team had three boats compete at the Head of the Charles Regatta this weekend.

COACH LISTER'S COMMENTS
"Women's Club 4+ 10 place finish was a strong showing among the teams we aim to compete with in the spring. They not only had a top 10 finish but also secured a bid for next year's race.

"Women's club 8+ had their best race of season thus far! Rowing among other team's varsity 8+, our 2V passed 2 boats on a successful first go at the Charles.

"Women's Championship 4+ raced among some of the top crews of the weekend. Faced with stiff competition the boat remained aggressive in their pacing and held off advancing crews for long battles.

"Really proud of the racing effort put in by all rowers. It's a testament to the hard work we have been putting in this fall.

"We have Head of Fish next week where we will race local crews including Marist and Cornell."

Women's Club Four
Colgate was first represented in the Women's Club Four and finished with a time of 18:34.108. The boat placed tenth out of 53 crews, beating out Patriot League teams Holy Cross, Lehigh, and MIT.

Kansas defended its title in the event, crossing the line at 18:05.254, followed by Columbia, Cornell, Brown, and Southern Methodist.

Women's Club Eight
The Raiders in the Women's Club Eight event were the second crew to launch for Colgate on Saturday. The second varsity eight rowers moved up a category and competed at a higher level. Sophomore Helena Cerutti, in her second year as varsity coxswain, helped navigate the boat around two other crews on a difficult course. The crew finished in 18:01.258, placing 33rd out of 43 teams.

Yale became three-time consecutive champions in the event with a time of 16:14.664, narrowly beating Dartmouth by less than a second (16:15.112). The top five was rounded out by Radcliffe, UMass, and the University of San Diego.

Women's Championship Four
The women's team concluded on Sunday in the Women's Championship Four event. The boat finished 15th out of 22 entries, crossing the line at 18:29.064.

The event was dominated by New York AC, which cleared the rest of the competition by 23 seconds (16:50.690). Virginia, Penn AC, Southern Methodist, and Columbia rounded out the top five.
