Box Score BRIGHTON, MASS. – Colgate scored four consecutive fourth quarter goals and pushed 10th ranked Harvard University to the brink in a 7-6 loss in a non-conference match-up. Each team played stellar defense throughout with Colgate holding Harvard's high-powered offense to less than half its goals per game average, and the Crimson defense surrendered only one first half goal while keeping the Raiders scoreless through the final 25:38 of the half.
After the Crimson scored a fast break goal 1:20 into the final quarter for a 7-2 lead,
Michael Minicus drew the Raiders back to within four goals with a shot from directly in front of the net off the first career assist for defenseman
Michael Lia. The goal came with 12:09 remaining.
Jack Turner took a highlight reel over the shoulder feed from
Brendan Jordan and found twine 97 seconds later. Turner scored his second straight goal, this time on a
Brian Minicus helper to close the deficit to 7-5 at 9:48. Jordan then took a feed from
Brian Minicus with 6:35 left and again went over the shoulder for the Raiders fourth consecutive goal. A tying shot attempt by
Colin Ruppenstein with just seven ticks left was stopped by the Harvard goalie.
Harvard led 2-1 after the first period. Colgate drew first blood on a man-up goal by
Alex Pistorius. Pistorius sent a bullet from the top of the box to the upper right corner of the goal. It was Pistorius' first goal of the season and came at the 10:38 mark on an assist by
Jack Turner. Harvard tied the game at 8:09 and took the 2-1 lead with 3:18 remaining in the quarter following a failed clear by Colgate. Two big saves by
Matt LaCombe in the final 10 seconds of the quarter kept the deficit at a single goal.
Harvard opened the second quarter with a goal just 47 seconds in. The Crimson increased the run to four goals at 11:07 and hit a fifth with 4:49 left in the half for a 5-1 lead at the break. LaCombe kept the Raiders in the game with a 11-save first half.
Both teams played stingy defense in the third period with each team able to manage only one score. Harvard got its sixth straight goal just 33 seconds into the quarter.
Brian Minicus finally got the Raiders back on the board with his 25
th goal of the season 4:35 into the period. Minicus took a pass from brother
Michael Minicus and fired from 15 yards out on the right side of the goal
Turner led the Raiders with two goals and an assist.
Brian Minicus had a goal and two assists, snapping his seven-game streak of multiple goal games. Jordan and
Michael Minicus each had a goal and an assist.
LaCombe stopped four of five second half Harvard shots for a total of 15 saves.
Ryan Decker and
Donny Gayhardt each snared three ground balls, while
Will Rosenblatt caused three Crimson turnovers.
