Colgate Ends Season With Victory

Ally Giovino's Two Goals Lead the Raiders to 4-1 Win

WORCESTER, Mass. —Ally Giovino scored a pair of goals to help Colgate to a 4-1 victory over Holy Cross On a foggy night at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium Wednesday.

Based on other results around the league, the Raiders fell just short of qualifying for the Patriot League tournament as their season ended at the conclusion of the game.

Giovino sealed the victory for Colgate when she scored with four minutes remaining to make it a 4-1 game. Anna Keeling played a perfect bending ball to Giovino in the box. The junior fired a shot that got denied by the goalie, but her follow-up shot landed in the back of the net.

Jordan Juetten made it a three-goal lead for Colgate when she scored in the 73rd minute. Ana Schremp played a ball into the box that Juetten headed off the post and into the goal.

In the 57th minute, the Raiders got awarded a penalty kick. Emily Amano took the penalty kick, but her shot got saved. Amano followed the rebound of the PK and finished one off to put Colgate ahead 2-1.

Giovino netted her first of the game in the 39th minute to tie the game up at 1-1. Schremp played a cross into the box from the right wing that Giovino slotted into the goal.

The Crusaders got on the board first in the 17th minute. The ball got played into the box, and Colleen McLivenna tapped a shot into the net to make it 1-0 Holy Cross.

The Raiders nearly took the lead just over a minute into the second when Ari Bezanson ripped a shot that hit the post.

Colgate had multiple other chances to extend its lead in the second, with four corner kicks in the half.

Colgate got awarded its first corner of the game in the 16th minute but could not get anything going. Just minutes later, Holy Cross put one in the back of the net, but the goal ended up getting overturned as the Crusaders were called offside.

The Raiders finished with a 10-5 advantage in shots, including a 9-1 lead in shots on goal.

Senior goalie Grace Poncsak picked up the win in her final game as a Raider.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Coach Lyndse Hokanson

"There's always a lot of emotions when a season comes to an end. For the second straight year, to tie for sixth and lose the tie break is just gutting knowing there were moments throughout the year we were this close. I'm forever grateful to our senior class who left this place, and staff, better than they found it. I hope we continue to build on the groundwork they've laid and that we allow this heartbreak to become fuel through the offseason. Really proud to end the season on a high note despite everything else, and happy for the performance we put together tonight."
