Raiders End Season in Setback to Navy

Colgate Falls in Patriot League Quarterfinal Round

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.—The Colgate Women's Tennis team had its campaign end Friday evening at Central PA Tennis Center after Navy topped the Raiders 4-0.

After Colgate dropped the doubles point by way of a 6-2 and 6-1 defeat, there was some promise for a comeback when singles play started.

At number one singles, MacKenzie Deeter was engaged in a battle after she dropped her opening set. She was trailing by a 3-2 tally in the second set when the Mids clinched the match.

Jordan Williams was also battling when play concluded at number two singles. She dropped a marathon first set by a 7-5 score, before she lost her opening game in the second set.

Lauren O'Brien also battled at number three and was behind in a 6-2, 5-2 score at the time of the clinch.

Nicole Condas won four games in her number six singles match as well, but the second set defeat was the deciding factor in the match.

FROM THE SOURCE
Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach Bobby Pennington

"Well, today is the end of a 40 plus match men and women's season filled with battling through adversity. First off, credit to Navy as they are an extremely talented, deep group 1 through 6 singles and that is why they are the #2 seed with 23 wins. The top three teams in our league, including Boston and Army are at another level in all major aspects."

"That being said, I can't say enough of how proud I am of our women. Their level improved dramatically from January as they had a handful of great wins and three heartbreaking losses. With everyone returning next year, plus four quality freshmen, our goal is to have a winning record and be a top-4 seed in the tournament we host."

"Shout out to Jordan Williams, she gets the game ball for coming within one game of winning the first set against a 5-star player."
