SYRACUSE, N.Y.—The Colgate Women's Tennis team would not be turned away Saturday afternoon at Drumlins Country Club, as they clawed their way back to a 4-2 win over Lafayette.
Colgate started strong right out of the gates against the Leopards.
MacKenzie Deeter teamed with
Jordan Williams and
Lauren O'Brien and
Madi Kiani partnered up to lift the Raiders to take the doubles point.
Deeter nearly completed a perfect afternoon at number one singles. She cruised to win her opening set by a 6-0 count, then fell in the final two sets to drop the three-set match.
Williams also missed out on the perfect day at number two. She was topped in straight sets to put Colgate in a hole, but it didn't last long.
O'Brien responded in a big way for the Raiders. She flew to a straight set win at number three, which included just two game losses in a 6-0, 6-2 decision.
From there, the bottom half of the Raiders' lineup did the rest.
Nicole Condas grinded her way to a 6-2, 7-6 triumph at number six, then Bartimer slammed the door.
She took home a 6-1, 7-6 victory with the final set setting off a huge celebration for Colgate, as it clinched the team win over the Leopards.
Kiani was also engaged in a heated battle at number four, as she was even with her opponent after two sets, but a conclusion was not needed thanks to Bartimer's win.
