Raiders Lose Heartbreaker to Sacred Heart

Match Comes Down to the Wire, as Pioneers Narrowly Slip Past Raiders

NEW HAVEN, Conn.—Sacred Heart narrowly escaped with a 4-3 victory over the Colgate Women's Tennis team Saturday evening at the Cullman-Heyman Tennis Center at Yale University.

The Raiders came roaring out of the gates in doubles and took an early lead over the Pioneers. MacKenzie Deeter and Jordan Williams combined to win their match 6-4, while Lauren O'Brien and Madi Kiani claimed a 6-3 triumph to secure the doubles point.

In singles, Deeter completed her perfect evening when she won via straight sets with a 6-3, 7-5 victory.

Williams also finished her 2-0 day when she battled back in the third and final set to earn a tough 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 win.

Kiani was just a few moments away from giving Colgate the team victory, as she battled back in her singles match to win the second set, then narrowly fell 7-5 in the final set.

Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach Bobby Pennington

"The women played lights out in doubles to take the point. Credit to Deeter for winning in straight sets and Williams was down 1-4 in the third and won."

"Madi Kiani was one single game away from winning and lost 7-5 in the third. Elinor Simek played a great match and lost."

"I really am heartbroken for the women as they deserve to have two wins at this point. Brutal day."
