2018 FIL World Lacrosse Championships

HAMILTON – Colgate faceoff specialist Alessio Giovannetti is having a summer to remember at the 2018 FIL World Lacrosse Championships in Israel.
 
Playing for Team Italy, Giovannetti and the Italians are off to a 3-0 start. The wins have come by a 16-8 count over Turkey, 13-7 against Peru and then a comeback 13-11 triumph Sunday over Sweden. Italy trailed the Swedes 6-1 after one quarter before rallying for six goals of their own in the final period, including the last three over the final six minutes.
 
Giovannetti, who just finished his debut season with the Raiders, has won 32-of-54 faceoff attempts in the first three games for a 59.3 percent success rate. He also has scored four goals – at least one in each game and two in the victory over Peru.
 
Italy takes on Ireland Monday at 11:45 a.m. local time and then would meet either Israel or the Philippines Tuesday.
