Women’s Tennis Pair Battled against the Best in the Region over the Weekend at Yale

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Colgate Women's Tennis team put a wrap on its fall season over the weekend at the ITA Northeast Regionals at Yale University.

The Raiders had two players qualify, as MacKenzie Deeter took part in both singles and doubles, while teammate Lauren O'Brien teamed up with Deeter to represent Colgate in doubles play.

For Deeter in singles play, the sophomore took on Marla Adiaconitei of Cornell and had a long match that eventually went to Adiaconitei by a 6-2, 7-6 (2) score. With the setback, Deeter closed out her fall with a singles record of 3-5.

In doubles play, Deeter and O'Brien had a tough assignment, as they took on the Brown team of Devon Jack and Courtney Kowalsky. The Raider duo won a game, but eventually fell by an 8-1 score. The duo ended the fall with a 1-3 doubles record.

Assistant Men's and Women's Tennis Coach Jordan Rucks

"We knew going into this weekend we were going to be up against some of the top players in the Northeast," said Rucks.

"Lauren and Mackenzie started off strong in the doubles, but fell short to 3rd seed Brown," said Rucks. "Mackenzie had a great comeback in singles and almost had the second set. Overall we had good energy and fighting spirit, with much to learn from this tournament.
