Colgate Connections Spark MLL All-Star Game

Baum Scores, Eck Dominates in Faceoff-X, Abbott Solid in Defense

BOSTON — This week's 2014 MLL All-Star Game was a matchup of stars that remained tightly contested until Team USA prevailed 10-9 in the final seconds.

Former Raiders Peter Baum '13 and Chris Eck '08 played big roles in the game, as did current Colgate volunteer assistant coach Matt Abbott. Baum scored a goal for the Major League Lacrosse All-Stars, while Eck was 12-of-17 in the faceoff-X for Team USA. Abbott on the defensive end helped Team USA rally from a 6-5 deficit entering the final period.

Baum scored his goal late in the first quarter to lift the MLL All-Stars into a 2-2 tie.

Baum plays for the Ohio Machine and suited up for Team MLL in his rookie season, while Eck of the Boston Cannons and Abbott of the Chesapeake Bayhawks were playing for Team USA in advance of the upcoming 2014 FIL World Championships. The game was played in fronjt of a crowd of more than 10,000 fans at Historic Harvard Stadium.

Team USA is now 3-0 when facing Team MLL in the All-Star Game. The same format was used before FIL World Championships in 2006 and 2010.

The 2014 FIL World Championships take place July 10-19 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park in the Denver suburb of Commerce City, Colorado.
