HAMILTON – Freshman Mike Panowyk scored the game-winning goal midway through the second period and sophomore goalie Charlie Finn recorded his second career shutout as fourth-ranked Colgate defeated Northeastern, 3-0, in collegiate men's ice hockey action Friday at Starr Rink.
Panowyk's goal at the 9:44 mark of the second period broke open a scoreless contest and Finn made the freshman's first collegiate tally count as he notched 24 saves, including 16 during the third period, to keep the Huskies off the scoreboard and propel the Raiders to their second victory of the season. Darcy Murphy and
Kyle Baun also scored for Colgate as the duo notched a pair of third period tallies to give the Raiders some breathing room during the final stanza.
With the win, Colgate Head Coach Don Vaughan recorded the 350th victory of his career, becoming one of only 11 active coaches in NCAA Division I Hockey to reach the milestone.

How It Happened
- Following a scoreless first period, freshman Mike Panowyk opened the scoring at the 9:44 mark of the second period, firing home a cross-ice feed from junior Kevin Lough on an odd-man break for his first collegiate tally. Junior Tyson Spink was credited with a secondary assist on the play.
- Junior Darcy Murphy doubled the Raiders advantage to 2-0 in the ninth minute of the third period. Murphy collected a pass from senior Joe Wilson near center ice and worked his way into the Huskies zone before sneaking one past Northeastern keeper Joe Witt from just below the left faceoff dot for his first goal of the season.
- Junior Kyle Baun closed out the scoring with an empty net tally with 52 seconds remaining to determine the 3-0 final margin. Spink and senior Spiro Goulakos both earned assists on the play.
