PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Colgate field hockey team was back on the road this weekend with a visit to Brown and the Raiders' second half rally fell just short against the Bears in a 4-2 loss on Saturday afternoon.

Colgate (1-4) was led by Meredith Gibson and Lauren Dittman, who scored both goals for the Raiders. Lauren Dittman was given an assist on Gibson's goal to give her three points on the day, while Amanda DiDomizio had four saves and was relieved by Caitlin Zolet in the second half. Zolet also had four stops in her 15 minutes of play.

Brown (2-1) saw Clayton Christus tally two goals to lead all scorers, while Hannah Rogers and Charlotte Small also scored. Shannon McSweeney did what she needed to do in net with six saves and earned the win.

Brown got on the board first with a goal coming 11:39 into the game. Rogers was credited with the goal after a long pass up field from Torie Stearns.  Rogers collected the pass and was 1-on-1 with DiDomizio and she shot high to left corner to give the Bears a 1-0 advantage.

Christus gave Brown some breathing room at 2-0 with her first of the season coming with 12:34 remaining in the first half. The Bears had a broken play happen, but Christus made something of it with a reverse sweep to the top left corner for the two-goal lead.

The Raiders sliced the lead down to 2-1 early in the second half as Gibson scored her first of the season. The goal came on a penalty corner with Dittman firing a shot to the left post on a setup play and Gibson tipped it home for the goal. The Bears then got the lead back to two goals, two minutes after Colgate scored. Once again, it was Christus finding the back of the net for her second of the day. She connected on a strong shot that found the right corner of the cage for the 3-1 lead.

Brown increased its lead to 4-1 with Small tallying the goal with the assist from Katelynn Mudgett. The play started with Mudgett at the top of the circle, and like Dittman's shot to Gibson for the Raiders, Mudgett slipped a shot to Small at the opposite post for the goal.

Colgate narrowed the margin to 4-2 with Dittman scoring her third of the season, which came unassisted. She collected a loose ball and dribbled to the left side of the circle and went back to the right with her shot that got past McSweeney. Brown, however, was able to hold on after Colgate had two goals in the second half and handed the Raiders a 4-2 loss.

Brown won the shot advantage by a 20-14 margin. The Raiders had eight opportunities on penalty corners and scored on one, while the Bears had seven chances.

Colgate will be back in action a week from today at St Francis (PA) for a 1 p.m. start on the road.
