Raiders Concede Late Goal to Fall, 3–2

Colgate scored its two goals in less than three minutes

EASTON, Pa. — Lafayette edged Colgate 3-2 on Saturday at Rappolt Field. Colgate scored twice in the third quarter to take their first lead of the match, but Lafayette tallied the equalizer late in the third and the game-winner in the final quarter.

COACH CORNELL-DEANGELIS' COMMENTS
"It was such a close game, we are really happy with our performance today. Our intentions were to play a connected game of hockey as one team and we certainly did that. We recognize that we need to maintain better possession in the last few minutes of every quarter. That continues to come back to haunt us."

The Raiders goalkeeper, Claire Van Kempen, made three crucial saves, to prevent the Leopards from finding the back of the net. The Leopards earned a penalty corner in the final seconds of the quarter, but the attempt did not translate into a goal. The period ended with the score tied at 0–0.

Lafayette took the lead in the second quarter with a goal from Lea Good in the 21st minute. The Leopards applied pressure, firing three more shots in the quarter. Van Kempen made a crucial save to keep the deficit at one. The Leopards entered halftime maintaining their 1–0 advantage.

In the third quarter, the Raiders leveled the score at 1–1 when Dani Palmer scored from a penalty corner in the 32nd minute from Ahria Dhillon's assist. Morgan Willis pushed Colgate ahead 2–1 with a goal three minutes later. The Raiders' capitalized off a fast break, assisted by Lauren Widdowson. In the closing moments of the quarter, Lafayette's Laila Pasic tied the game at 2-2 with a goal.

The fourth quarter saw the Leopards applying pressure, though Van Kempen made three more saves for the Raiders. Lafayette secured a late victory with a goal in the 59th minute, pushing the score to 3-2 and sealing Colgate's fate.
