WORCESTER, Mass. – Colgate had three different goal scorers and Claire van Kempken recorded 12 saves but the Raiders fell to Holy Cross in overtime, 4-3, on Friday evening at Hart Turf.
COACH CORNELL-DEANGELIS' COMMENTS
"I am so proud of our performance and resiliency today. We had a tough goal called that could have set us back in the second quarter and we continued to keep our composure and play as a team. Claire played a great game along with Annie and Ahria that played every minute of the match. We had different goal scores and continue to believe with 2min left to tie up the game. It was a matter of inches in overtime and came up short."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Dani Palmer opened the scoring with his fifth goal of the season, while Elicia Bikhazi-Green and Maddie Rohlfing found the back of the cage for the first time in 2025. van Kempken's 12 saves were one shy of her season-high 13 stops against Syracuse (Oct. 3).
Each team traded goals in the first two terms. Palmer and Bikhazi-Green helped the Raiders level the score 2-2 at halftime. After a scoreless third quarter, the Crusaders took their first lead of the match, 3-2, on a goal three minutes into the fourth.
Rohlfing brought the Raiders to life with her first collegiate goal with 1:10 remaining in regulation. The first-year sent home the equalizer off a penalty corner by Grace Schmelzinger, who was credited with the assist after a scrum in front of the cage.
Holy Cross had the first and only three shots of overtime. van Kempken was up to the task until Martina di Gregorio found the back of the cage just under four minutes into the extra period to give the home team the 4-3 victory.
