Between working and training, Colgate men's lacrosse senior,
Jared Madison, has taken time out of his busy schedule to answer a series of questions that will help fans and the Colgate family get to know him better.
Madison, who was one of three players to start in all 16 games last season, finished the season with a career-high 151 saves for a .539 save percentage and had an 8.13 goals against average. He also collected 31 groundballs, had five caused turnovers and was named to the Patriot League All-Tournament Team and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll.
On what made him play lacrosse and when he started … “My mom and dad played while they were growing up, so they instilled a love for the game in me at an early age. My mom was the starting goalie for Rutgers University and my dad coached me from third to eighth grade. My older brother Conor also played, so he was an important part in getting me started as well.”
On what sport he would play if he was not playing lacrosse … “Football or basketball. I played both in high school until I started focusing more on lacrosse when I realized that was the sport for me. I really enjoyed playing football and I loved basketball for defense. The mentalities are similar on defense for lacrosse so it wasn't too hard a transition for me. I'll admit I was a pretty terrible shooter but I could handle the ball and feed decently enough on offense. I still play pick-up football and basketball games with friends when I get the chance.”
On what he did this summer … “I've spent a lot of time preparing myself and working hard for the upcoming season. I also worked with an environmental consulting and energy investment company in New Brunswick, N.J. earlier in the summer, which was a great experience. Other than that I was lucky enough to spend time on Pawley's Island, the Outer Banks, and most recently Galway, Ireland.
On the one thing that people would be surprised to know about him … “I'm right-handed but left-footed.”
On who the funniest person on his team is … “That's a tough one. I would have to say
Dave Tucciarone '11, although he graduated last year. Right now it looks like the torch will be passed on to either
Will Manning or
Chris Seter this year.”
On what reality TV show he would want to star in … “I'm tempted to stick with my home state and go with the Jersey Shore, but I'll go with The Amazing Race. I would take my brother as my teammate.”
On who his all-time favorite Colgate athlete (past or present) … “It has to be Brandon Corp '09. It was an honor to play with him my freshman year. His vision, skill set and athletic ability are unrivaled by anyone I've ever met. Seeing his shots every day during practice was invaluable in preparing me to be a starter.”
