Men’s Lacrosse Concludes Road Swing at Dartmouth

HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/24/11)
– The Colgate men's lacrosse team will resume play this weekend when it travels to Hanover, N.H. for a matchup against Dartmouth on Saturday, Feb. 26 at 2:30 p.m.

Colgate (0-2) is coming off a 9-4 loss to Vermont on Sunday. Senior co-captain Andrew Mould scored twice while freshman Brendon McCann and sophomore Michael Thomas had one goal each.

SCORING MACHINE
Mould has already scored four goals this season in just two games. He first tallied a pair against #9/10 Hofstra followed by another two against Vermont. After finishing seventh on the team with 11 points from nine goals and two assists last season, he has accumulated almost half of his previous point total in just two games.

POINT LEADERS
The Raiders have five players with points in the first two games of the season. Mould continues to lead the team in scoring with four points from four goals. He is followed by McCann who has a second-best three points from two goals and one assist, and by sophomore Peter Baum who has two points from two assists. Thomas and junior Patrick Campbell have one point each from one assist apiece.

SERIES
Dartmouth leads the all-time series, owning a 16-2-1 record against the Raiders. Since the teams first met in 1931, Colgate has won two of the 19 games, first in 1955 and then in 1957. The team has a 1-4-1 record against the Big Green on the road with Dartmouth winning the last meeting in the 2004 season 9-4 in Hanover, N.H.

SCOUTING DARTMOUTH
The Big Green (0-0) will open their 2011 season against Colgate this weekend after completing last season with a 5-8 overall record. The team also went 2-4 in Ivy League play, narrowly missing out on the league tournament after falling to No. 18 Brown 10-9 in overtime.

Dartmouth is led by senior Josh Etzion and sophomore Chris Costabile. Etzion  was second on the team in points last season with 30 off 18 goals and 12 assists, while Costabile was third on the team with 20 goals and six assists for 26 points. The team also returns sophomore goaltender Fergus Campbell who was named to the All-New England Second Team and received second team All-Ivy League honors. Campbell led the Ivy League and was fifth nationally in save percentage (.584) while also averaging 10.73 saves per game, which put him at second in the league and fifth in the country.

PATRIOT LEAGUE PRESEASON POLL
Colgate was selected to finish fourth in the Patriot League Preseason Poll that was released on Jan. 26. Defending champion, No. 13 Army, was picked to finish first with 78 points and 12 first-place votes. Following the Black Knights was last season's runner-up, Navy, with 58 points and one first-place vote and No. 20 Bucknell with 51 points and one-first place vote as well. The Raiders rounded out the top four with 39 points, while Lehigh (31), Lafayette (30) and Holy Cross (13) had the final three spots. Army seniors Jeremy Boltus and Bill Henderson were selected as the Patriot League Preseason Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year.
