Raiders Upset Bucknell in Overtime, 6-5

Crotty scores game-winning goal to send Colgate to Semifinals

LEWISBURG, Pa. –
In a low-scoring game, Colgate overcame an early deficit to edge Bucknell, 6-5, in overtime and advance to the Patriot League Semifinals. Colgate, the No. 5 seed in the Patriot League Tournament, upset No. 4 Bucknell at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium in Lewisburg, Pa.

First-year Emmet Crotty led the Raiders, scoring the game-winning goal in overtime. Colgate won the faceoff in the extra period, and Ryan Favaro found Crotty, who sealed the victory.

Defense dictated the tone throughout. Colgate goalkeeper Andrew Lehrman was a key piece in the Raiders' win over the Bison. Lehrman faced 38 shots, with Bucknell placing 21 on goal. The sophomore made 16 saves and allowed a career-low five goals, finishing with a .762 save percentage.

Aside from Lehrman's valiant effort, Colgate's lockdown defense helped the Raiders prevail. The team totaled 15 caused turnovers, led by John Carrabine and Sam Erickson with three apiece. Colgate also collected 41 ground balls, led by Carrabine.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Defense dominated the first quarter, with just one goal scored in the opening 15 minutes. Colgate fired three quick shots, but Bucknell's goalkeeper turned them all away.

Lehrman faced six shots in the first quarter, saving the first five. The Bison broke through with under a minute remaining to take a 1-0 lead.

Bucknell extended its lead on a man-up possession to open the second quarter. Later in the period, the Bison added their third goal to push the advantage to 3-0. The Raiders got on the board in the 22nd minute when Casey Quinson scored on a solo effort.

His goal was quickly followed by more offensive momentum, as Freddy Fowler added another on a diving solo play to cut the deficit to 3-2. Both teams had chances late in the half, but Lehrman made three more saves to keep it a one-possession game heading into halftime.

Colgate outscored Bucknell 3-1 in the third quarter to take a 5-4 lead. The Bison struck first on their second man-up opportunity to go up 4-2.

The Raiders responded with three straight goals, beginning with Quinn Spillett's score off an assist from Quinson. Lehrman made a crucial save that led to Colgate's next goal, as Hunter Drouin fought through a double team and found Nick Lancaster, who tied the game, 4-4.

Lehrman added two more saves, which helped set up Drouin's wide-open goal off an assist from Andy Croddick, giving Colgate its first lead, 5-4, heading into the fourth quarter.

The final quarter featured back-and-forth action, with both teams generating scoring opportunities. Bucknell found the equalizer with 11 minutes remaining in regulation. Lehrman came up with several key saves, including one with four seconds left, to preserve the tie and force overtime.

In overtime, Colgate won the faceoff as Fischer Burke secured possession, followed by a ground ball pickup from John Carrabine. The Raiders missed their first shot but retained possession. Crotty then scored the game-winner, assisted by Favaro, marking his 12th goal of the season. The golden goal lifted Colgate to a 6-5 victory and a spot in the Patriot League semifinals.
