Women's Swimming & Diving Has 14 Named All-League

Erin McGraw receiving her Female Swimmer of the Meet trophy on Saturday.
HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/23/11) – Fresh off its 2011 Patriot League Championship, the Colgate women's swimming and diving team placed 14 competitors on the all-league team on Wednesday.

All-league is determined by the athlete's finish and points at the PL Championships. Individual event winners automatically make the first team. Second-place finishers automatically make the second team. Each All-League team is comprised of 18 swimmers and divers. Once all event winners are place on the first team, it is back-filled by championship points. Therefore somebody who was a second-place finisher can move up to first team based on points.

Colgate had nine athletes make the first team with five earning votes to the second team.

Senior captain Erin McGraw led the way with a first team selection after winning the Female Swimmer of the Meet award and with the honor she has now been named to the first team all four seasons.

Erica Derlath and her three event wins joined the first team for the third-straight season. McGraw and Derlath were the two top swimmers at the meet as they both earned 60 points towards the team's total.

Senior captain Caren Guyett and Lia Kunnapas were also selected to the first team based on their event wins during the three-day event. For Guyett, it was her fourth appearance on the first team. Kunnapas made it two-straight years on the first team. Diver Kim Pilka was a first team member for sweeping the two diving events.

Claire Hunter, Emma Santoro, Melanie Lockard and Jenna Jacoby each made the top team based on their point totals. Hunter, who was competing in her first championship meet was sixth overall in total points with 49. Santoro was a key contributor with 47 points, while Lockard and Jacoby posted 45 and 43 points, respectively, to reach the first team.

Sarah Button was the top point-getter for the Raiders on the second team as she earned 38 points. Colgate then had the next four on the list with Megan Jex and Emily Kelly earning 36 points toward the team's total. Jenna Daly and Becca Murray rounded out the second team selections for Colgate after recording 34 and 32 points, respectively. All of the second team members for the Raiders made the team based on total points.

The Raiders had the most overall competitors on both teams with 14, while Navy was second with 12, but had only five on the first team. Overall, there were 19 first team selections and 18 on the second team.
