Guyett Paces Women's Swimming and Diving to Two Wins

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (1/22/11) –
Senior captain Caren Guyett won three individual events and had four total in two wins in a tri-meet with Binghamton and Vermont on Saturday afternoon.

The Raiders beat the Catamounts handily with a 214-96 win and took care of business against the Bearcats with a 196-104 win.

Guyett started her day with the 1000-yard freestyle and came away with her first win with a time of 10:13.55. She blew away her opponents in the event as the second place finisher was 27 seconds behind her time. She came through in the 200-yard fly at 2:05.50. Guyett was a full second ahead of Tiffany Siu of Binghamton. Her final individual win came in the 200-yard breaststroke and she again ended up a second ahead of the competition with a time of 2:28.33

Co-captain Erin McGraw also chipped in with two individual wins. She got started in the 200-yard free and earned the win with a time of 1:54.25. Teammate Emma Santoro gave her a good run, but McGraw finished a half second ahead of the sophomore. McGraw continued with a top finish in the 100-yard fly at 58.13 seconds.

Erica Derlath and Santoro added to the point total for the Raiders with first-place swims. Derlath got her win in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:01.53, while Santoro won the 200-yard individual medley at 2:10.23.

The Raiders took home both relays. The first of the day came in the 200-yard relay as Lia Kunnapas, Claire Hunter, Santoro and McGraw teamed up for the win at 1:50.24. Guyett and Hunter also competed in the 400-yard relay with Sarah Button and Megan Jex and the team ended up with a time of 3:34.5.

Kim Pilka continued her dominance on the board as she swept both diving events. She took the 1-meter win with a score of 256.9 and took home the victory in the 3-meter at 245.45.

Colgate will be back in conference with a meet at Army that will feature the Black Knights and Lafayette next Saturday at 1 p.m.
