HAMILTON, N.Y. (9/25/10) -
The Colgate field hockey team suffered its seventh setback of the season on Saturday afternoon, after a 2-1 loss to Bryant on Tyler's Field.

The Raiders now have an overall record of 3-7 as they go into conference play next weekend.

The first half of the game started even between the two teams with both Colgate and Bryant having a few attempts on goal. The Raiders got on the score board first in the 12th minute when Laura Denenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) found the back of the cage off a rebound from the Bryant goalkeeper. It was her Patriot League leading seventh goal of the year.

The Bulldogs answered back in the 24th minute with a Elise Boissoneau shot from the top of the circle, to tie the game at 1-1. Bryant then found its second goal of the game six minutes later on a two on one fast break, giving them the 2-1 lead going into half time. The other Elise on the Bulldog roster scored the goal as Elise Discoll scored the eventual gamewinner.

In the second half both teams began to play more offensively with the Raiders creating majority of the goal scoring opportunities in the closing minutes of the game. However, despite a flurry of attempts including a series of corners in the last five minutes of the game, the team could not find the goal they needed to force the game into overtime, giving Bryant its first win of the season.

Senior captain Kirsten Lalli (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) finished with five saves in the loss, while Jennifer Gullotti pushed aside nine shots in her first win of the year. Colgate had a huge advantage in shots at 19-10 and recorded 14 penalty corners to only one for the Bulldogs.

The Raiders will resume play next weekend when they open Patriot League play against Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 12 p.m. in Easton, Pa.
