Halle Biggar (Pepper Pike, Ohio) scored 5:46 into overtime to give the Colgate field hockey team its first overtime win of the season with a 2-1 victory against St. Francis.
Colgate (3-6) was led by Biggar with three points as she added an assist with the gamewinner, while senior
Laura Denenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) also recorded three points on a goal and an assist. Senior captain
Kirsten Lalli (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) pushed aside three shots in the win with two coming in the second half.
For the Red Flash (2-6), Tia Dudukovich netted the lone goal and it came unassisted. Katelyn Vitali made six saves between the pipes in the loss.
Colgate took an early 1-0 lead on Denenga's sixth of the year with the assist going to Biggar. The Raiders scored 15:17 into the contest. St. Francis had a 5-3 lead in shots at halftime and Lalli made just one stop in the first 35 minutes. Penalty corners were just about even with Colgate earning a slim 4-3 advantage.
The Red Flash knotted the game at 1-1, 2:46 into the second half on a goal from Dudukovich as she scored on the team's first shot of the final half. It was the third of the season for Dudukovich.
There wasn't much more action in the second half as the teams combined for eight shots and the game went into overtime.
Biggar and Denenga were involved again with the gamewinner, but this time it was Biggar with the goal and Denenga with the assist to give the Raiders a big 2-1 overtime win. The goal came on Colgate's second penalty corner of the overtime frame and the 11th of the game.
St. Francis posted 10 shots to nine for the Raiders and had a 13-11 advantage in penalty corners.
Colgate will be back in action on Sept. 25 as the Raiders host Bryant at Tyler's Field at 3 p.m.
