Field Hockey Drops Road Game at Lock Haven

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. (9/18/10) –
The Colgate field hockey team fell to Lock Haven, 6-1, on Saturday afternoon as the Raiders dropped to 2-6 on the season.

Colgate (2-6) got its lone goal from freshman Olivia Nabhan (Rye, N.Y.), which was her second of the season. Senior captain Kirsten Lalli (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) made seven stops between the pipes and rookie Caitlin Zolet (Potomac, Md.) also saw time, getting in the last 10 minutes of the contest.

The Eagles (4-4) saw Tonia-Marie James lead the way with a pair of goals, while Kristi Shepps, Amy Hordendorf, Kelsie Minnich and Teresa Lezama each added goals. Hordendorf also posted an assist for three points. Erin Terreson took the win with five saves in net and allowing just one goal.

Hordendorf got the scoring started just 2:24 into the contest with an unassisted goal to make it 1-0. Nabhan then tied the score less than four minutes later with her second of the year coming on a rebound to even the score at 1-1.

Lock Haven then took over with five unanswered goals beginning with Lezama scoring 54 seconds following Nabhan's goal. Lezama was able to deflect her shot off a defender and into the net to get the lead back for the Eagles at 2-1. Shepps made it 3-1 with eight minutes left in the half on another rebound.

In the second half, Lock Haven scored 33 seconds in with a goal from James. She went past the Raider defense and sent the ball to the far post and increased the lead to 4-1. Minnich added her only goal of the contest on a penalty corner with 11:35 remaining. She collected a loose ball during the rush and beat Lalli to the near post.

The final score came from James as she tipped a Hordendorf shot and into the net as she closed the scoring at 6-1.

The Eagles had an 18-9 shot advantage and recorded 10 penalty corners to seven from the Raiders.

Colgate will be back in action tomorrow at noon against St. Francis.
