Raiders Fall to #3 Maryland 18-10 in Manhasset

– The Colgate men's lacrosse team concluded its season Saturday afternoon with an 18-10 loss to No. 3 Maryland at the Indians Rock Community Foundation Lacrosse Day of Champions at Manhasset High School.

Maryland (11-3) scored the first three goals of the game and never looked back as it built an 8-2 lead in the first quarter. The Raiders began the second quarter with a 3-1 run to trim the lead to 9-5, but that was as close as they would get, as Maryland responded with a 4-1 run to lead 13-6 at halftime.

Junior Rob Bosco (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) led Colgate with three points off a goal and two assists, while freshmen Peter Baum (Portland, Ore.) and Matt Baker (Ridgefield, Conn.) along with juniors Frank Coughlin (Manhasset, N.Y.) and Andrew Mould (Wyomissing, Pa.), each recorded two points.

Coughlin assisted on the Colgate's first two goals while Baum scored back-to-back goals, in just 31 seconds, to trim the Terps lead to 9-5. Bosco assisted both of Baum's goals.

Maryland outscored the Raiders 5-0 in the third quarter to build its largest lead of the game 18-6, but Colgate was able to respond with a 4-0 shutout in the fourth quarter to make the final 18-10.

Freshman Michael Thomas (Peterborough, Ont.) opened the fourth quarter with his first collegiate goal and was soon followed by Baker who scored a man-up goal, the first goal of his career.  
 
Sophomore Jared Madison (Lawrenceville, N.J.) tallied eight stops in the second half, while senior Tim Harrington (Lutherville, Md.) saved four in the loss. Brian Phipps saved six for Maryland.

Colgate was outshot 42-36, but won the groundball battle 41-34. The Raiders also went 2-4 in extra-man opportunities, while Maryland was 1-1.
