Men's Lacrosse Falls in Overtime 8-7 at Bucknell

– Bucknell's Austin Winter scored with 55 seconds remaining in the first overtime session to top Colgate 8-7, Saturday afternoon at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The Bison clinched the final Patriot League Tournament berth with the win.

After trailing 7-1, Colgate scored the final six goals of regulation, including five in the fourth quarter to force overtime.

Junior Ben McCabe (Brunswick, Maine) led Colgate with four points off three goals and one assist, while freshman Peter Baum (Portland, Ore.), sophomores Patrick Campbell (Massapequa, N.Y.) and Chris Zielinski (Lancaster, Pa.), along with senior captain Ian Murphy (Constantia, N.Y.) each recorded two points.

Baum scored the first goal of the game at the 13:29 mark of the first period to give Colgate the early lead, but the Bison were able to answer back and hold the Raiders scoreless for the rest of the first half to build a 6-1 lead at intermission.

Bucknell scored again midway through the third period to build a 7-1 lead, but the Raiders answered back with six-consecutive goals to tie the score 7-7. Baum began Colgate's run with his second goal of the game with 1:47 remaining in the third quarter.

Junior Jim Carroll (Nesconset, N.Y.) opened the fourth quarter winning five straight face-offs to help lead the Raider surge. The scoring began with a goal from McCabe at the 14:11 mark to trim Bucknell's lead to 7-3. Zielinski assisted McCabe's goal. Colgate then scored three goals over a 1:39 to make it a 7-6 game with 9:41 remaining. Campbell scored at the 11:20 mark and was followed by a goal from Murphy 34 seconds later. McCabe scored his second goal of the quarter off an assist from Murphy to bring Colgate within one, then tied the game, 7-7, five minutes later off an assist from Campbell.

Sophomore Jared Madison (Lawrenceville, N.J.) tallied nine stops in the loss for Colgate, while Kyle Feeney saved 10 for Bucknell.

Colgate outshot the Bison 37-27, but lost the groundball battle 25-23.

Colgate returns to action on Saturday (May 8) against Maryland. The game is set to begin at 12 p.m., in Manhasset, N.Y.
