Women's Swimming Cruises to Win at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. (11/20/10) –
The Colgate women's swimming and diving team dominated again this afternoon, dropping only one race and earning a 173-87 win over Duquesne.

Senior captain Erin McGraw (Penfield, N.Y.) was the first this season to post three individual event wins after her effort today. Her day started with the 100-yard backstroke and she was able to hold off teammate Lia Kunnapas (Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.) to take first at 58.24. Kunnapas finished in the second spot with a time of 58.50 seconds. McGraw then won the 200-yard back with a time of 2:04.65 and the 100-yard individual medley to turn the hat trick as she finished at 59.41.

The captain earned her fourth win of the day in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.90. She was joined by Kunnapas, sophomore Emma Santoro (Fall River, Mass.) and rookie Claire Hunter (Rye, N.Y.) The Raiders also won the 400-yard freestyle relay with a different team jumping into the pool and earning a win. Senior captain Caren Guyett (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) led the way with juniors Sarah Button (Mendham, N.J.), Jenna Daly (Garden City, N.Y.) and Erika Mortenson (Chesterfield, Mo.). The squad finished with a time of 1:49.90.

Santoro jumped in with a couple of individual victories. She earned the win in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:07.57. Then turned in a win in the 200-yard breast to sweep the breaststroke events with a mark of 2:23.88.

Guyett got her lone individual win of the day in the 1650-yard freestyle event at 17:18.83 to earn nine points to the team total. Hunter also contributed an individual win in the 200-yard freestyle with a mark of 1:56.86. Kunnapas chipped in again as she took home a win in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.18 seconds.

The Raiders had two new winners this Saturday. Earning their first individual event victories were Daly and sophomore Jenna Jacoby (Fairfax, Va.). Daly swam to victory in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 5:15.09, while Jacoby came out on top in the 100-yard butterfly at 59.41 seconds for her first win as a member of the Colgate women's swimming team.

The Raiders have now won their last two meets and three of the last four with the win. Colgate will be off until the beginning of December as the Raiders head to the Kenyon Invite on Dec. 2-4.
