Soccer Game Central
HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/14/10) – The Colgate men's soccer team will resume Patriot League play this weekend when it hosts Lafayette on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. on Van Doren Field. This game is part of the team's alumni weekend during which the 1990-1999 and the 2000-2009 All-Decade Teams will be announced.
The Raiders (6-3-3), who are coming off a 2-0 loss to Cornell earlier in the week, will look to continue their unbeaten record against league opponents. This will be the third conference game that Colgate will play at home.
WINNING STREAK
The team is currently on a three-game winning streak against league opponents, winning all three games by a 1-0 margin. Colgate secured its first conference win against Lehigh back in September and then went on to defeat Holy Cross and most recently, Army, last weekend.
TEAM LEADERS
Matt Schuber (Webster, N.Y.) continues to lead the team in points (6) off two goals and two assists while
Mike Reidy (Webster, N.Y.) and
Steven Miller (Ivyland, Pa.) are tied at second with five points off two goals and one assist apiece.
Shane Conlin (Randolph, N.J.) has also scored two goals for the Raiders while
Jeff Leach (New Canaan, Conn.),
Patrick Letourneau (Bethlehem, Pa.) and
Mike Reese (Wallingford, Pa.) have each scored one goal each.
PATRIOT LEAGUE STANDINGS
The Raiders, who were picked to finish tied at fourth with American in the preseason poll, are currently tied for first with American in the league with both teams having a 3-0 conference record. Colgate leads the league in shutouts (6) and is second in goals allowed (9) and goals against average (0.69).
REGIONAL POWERHOUSE
The Raiders are ranked No. 2 in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Region poll after dropping one spot from the No. 1 position, which it held for two weeks. The team is ranked second after Charlotte and is followed by Navy, American, Lehigh, Lafayette, Xavier, Fordham, St. Bonaventure and Dayton. The Patriot League comprises five of the top-10 slots in the Mid-Atlantic region, with No. 2 Colgate followed by No. 3 Navy, No. 4 American, No. 5 Lehigh and No. 6 Lafayette.
The team has consistently been ranked as one of the top teams in the region this season since the first poll came out on Sept. 6 when it was ranked sixth. Since then the Raiders have remained in the top five of the poll, and was ranked first for two consecutive weeks (Sept. 28 and Oct. 5).
SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
The Leopards (5-5-2) are coming off a 3-0 loss to Princeton at home on Tuesday (Oct. 12). The team is on a three-game losing streak, falling to Lehigh and American before the Tigers. Prior to that, the team suffered losses to Binghamton and UPenn, had ties with Vermont and Villanova, and defeated Rider, Stony Brook, Temple, Holy Cross and NJIT.
Lafayette (1-2) is currently sixth in the league standings with two losses to American and Lehigh and a win against Holy Cross. The team is led by sophomore midfielder Sean Peckham and sophomore forward Kyle Scharfenberg. Peckham leads the team in points with nine off three goals and three assists while Scharfenberg leads the team in goals with four.
