SYRACUSE - The Raiders fell to the Syracuse Orange, 3-0, at SU Soccer Stadium on Tuesday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Drew Stephans nearly put Colgate ahead just minutes into the match with a clipped through ball behind but the effort was saved.
- Eric Widrick made a full stretch save halfway through the first half and another moments later to keep the match scoreless.
- Malik Samms took a long shot in the latter stages of the half that sailed over.
- The score remained knotted at zero at the halftime break.
- Coming out of halftime, Cason Stafford ripped a shot from the corner of the 18-yard box but it flew just over the cross bar.
- Widrick made another reflex save to parry the ball over the net five minutes into the second half.
- Syracuse would take the lead on a penalty kick in the 57th minute.
- The hosts would double their advantage moments later on a corner kick.
- The Orange all but won the match with a third goal in the 65th minute.
- Widrick continued to make big stops but the Raiders fell 3-0.
GAME NOTES
- Syracuse's penalty kick stopped a streak of 286:42 shutout minutes for Colgate.Â
- Widrick made six saves in net.
- Stephans, Ryan Schachter, and Colin Hughes each registered a shot on target.
