HAMILTON - Two second half goal involvements from
Blake Pipkin saw the Raiders cruise to a 2-0 victory at Beyer-Small '76 Field on Saturday afternoon.
COACH RONNING'S COMMENTS
"We earned three valuable points today. [The] first half was not urgent enough but certainly looked like a team who wanted to score and win in the second half. Recovery is very important now in preparation for a huge game in Boston on Friday."
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Five minutes into the game, Cason Stafford played a ball into the path of Ryan Schachter but his shot was easily saved by the Navy goalkeeper.
- The Mids had their first chance of the game in the opening 10 minutes but Eric Widrick made a comfortable stop to his right.
- Colgate continued to apply pressure for the middle of the first half to the Midshipmen but they were unable to create any quality chances.
- Navy created a half chance with two minutes left in the half but the effort went high and the score remained tied at zero at the break.
- Six minutes into the second half, Colin Hughes slid a through ball to Blake Pipkin inside the Navy 18-yard box. Pipkin's initial effort was saved but Pipkin buried the rebound to give Colgate a 1-0 lead.
- In the 63rd minute, after a spell of possession for the Raiders, Pipkin curled a searching ball to the back post and Alex St. John made no mistake and put the header calmly into the bottom right corner to double the hosts lead.
- Navy created a free header with less than 10 minutes to go but the effort went wide right.
- The Raiders held on to a 2-0 win at home.
GAME NOTES
- The Raiders earned their first Patriot League win of the season and remained unbeaten at home sporting a record of 4-0-1 with just one goal allowed.
- Eric Widrick earned his seventh clean sheet of the season.
- Blake Pipkin logged his first goal of the season and added an assist on Alex St. John's first goal of the season.

Colgate (5-3-3, 1-1-2 PL) will hit the road to take on Boston University for a Patriot League Semifinal rematch on Friday, Oct. 10. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
