Cory Murphy Signs With Devils

Cory Murphy signed with the New Jersey Devils
HAMILTON, N.Y.  (7/21/09) -  Former Colgate hockey standout Cory Murphy signed a two-way contract with the New Jersey Devils' organization, it was recently announced.  No other terms to the contract were disclosed.

In the 2008-09 season, the 2001 graduate posted five goals and 11 assists for 16 points between the Florida Panthers and the Tampa Bay Lightning.  On January 19, 2009, the Kanata, Ontario native was claimed off re-entry waivers by Tampa Bay and the former Raider responded with five goals and 10 points for the Lightning in 25 games.  In his 79-game NHL career, he has produced seven goals and 26 assists.

Murphy, a three-time all-ECAC Hockey selection during his collegiate career, tallied 28 goals, 83 assists for 111 points in 138 games.  Following graduation, he played six professional seasons overseas, including five in Finland.  He returned to North America and signed with the Panthers in time for the 2007-08 campaign.

Murphy joins former Raiders Tyler Burton and Matt Torti in the Devils' organization.  Two current Colgate players, David McIntyre and Corbin McPherson are also property of the Devils as well.
