Colgate Falls To Ducks in Eugene

EUGENE, ORE.  (3/21/09)  – Jana Drummond scored three times and Jess Drummond added three more as Oregon defeated Colgate 14-11 in women's lacrosse action, Saturday afternoon on the west coast.

Colgate, which entered the game with a five game win streak, fell to 7-3 with the loss, while the Ducks improved to 6-2.

The Raiders received three goals and one assist from Colleen Bubnack (Syracuse, N.Y.) and Brie Moran (Little Silver, N.J.), while freshman Courtney Miller (Chappaqua, N.Y.) added two scores in the defeat.

Colgate grabbed its lone lead at 1-0 as Miller opened the scoring 20 seconds into the contest.  After Ducks scored three consecutive to take the 3-1 advantage, the Raiders quickly answered back with two goals in a 19-second span.  Ashley Didio (Syracuse, N.Y.) connected for her 100th career goal with a successful free position shot at 25:35, while Bubnack accounted for another score at 25:16.

Trailing 10-4, Colgate took advantage of a Duck yellow card and scored twice in the closing 3:13 of the half as Moran and Bubnack pulled the Raiders within four goals before intermission.

The Oregon lead grew to as many as 13-7 in the second half.  Colgate's final three goals also came with Oregon down a player, as Miller, Maddie Kearns (Chevy Chase, Md.), and Moran each hit the back of the net in the closing 12:39 of the contest.

Freshman goalie Christina Roa (Potomac, Md.) saved eight shots in 39:33 of work after taking over in net for Sara Drexler (Pottstown, Pa.).  The senior collected three saves in 20:27 of action.

Colgate returns to action Wednesday evening as it entertains Binghamton.  The game is set for a 7 p.m. start at Tyler's Field.
