Colgate Falls to Holy Cross

McMahon reaches 100-point milestone

HAMILTON - After going behind 6-1 in the opening frame, the Raiders battled back to get within two goals but unfortunately fell 17-13 to Holy Cross at Andy Kerr Stadium on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crusaders quickly established momentum, notching the first goal at 14:04, followed by another goal less than two minutes later. Colgate responded midway through the quarter with Ella Bishara scoring a player-up goal, assisted by Sarah Marcovici, narrowing the gap to 2-1.

Holy Cross regained control, adding four more goals to their tally, including two from free position shots. Colgate's defense, led by goalkeeper Maddie Stevens, made several key stops, but the visitors maintained pressure throughout. The quarter ended with the Crusaders leading 6-1.

Colgate started the second quarter with a strong offensive push, as Aubrey McMahon scored a player-up goal early, narrowing the Crusaders' lead. DeSimone and Bishara contributed to the momentum with effective draw controls and a goal. Despite efforts, the Crusaders responded quickly, equalizing and later extending their lead.

Colgate's resilience was evident when McMahon netted another goal. Chase Dunn and Lucy Lederman found the back of the net in quick succession, narrowing the deficit. However, the Crusaders managed to score in the final seconds, ending the quarter with a 10-6 lead in favor of the visitors.

Colgate opened the third quarter with a quick goal by McMahon. Bishara capitalized on a free position shot minutes later to add another goal for Colgate, maintaining their momentum. The Crusaders responded with goals from Janie Baringer and Hadley Cepiel.

Maddie Stevens made crucial saves during the quarter, helping Colgate keep the game within reach. Bishara scored again in the final minute, closing the quarter with Colgate trailing 12-9.

Colgate opened the fourth quarter with a goal from McMahon at 13:59. The Crusaders responded with a goal from Cepiel, assisted by Kate Burns, bringing the score to 14-10 in favor of the Crusaders.

Colgate answered back as Bishara scored at 3:41, followed by Marcovici finding the net with an assist from McMahon at 2:31, tightening the gap to 15-12. The Crusaders extended their lead with goals from Annabel Brennan and Lily Glance, making it 17-13 with 21 seconds remaining. The Raiders fell 17-13 to Holy Cross in the end.

GAME NOTES

Ella Bishara scored six goals and now has 17 goals in her last four games.
Aubrey McMahon posted six points with four goals and two assists. McMahon logged her 100th career point in just 27 career games.
Maddie Stevens made 15 saves between the pipes for the Raiders.
Sophie Granse posted four ground balls and one caused turnover.
Josie Cavallo added six draw controls to bring her season total to 84.

UP NEXT
Colgate (4-6, 2-2 PL) hosts Lehigh next Saturday at Andy Kerr Stadium. The Raiders will celebrate senior day prior to the game with it scheduled for 11 a.m.
