BALTIMORE, Md. (2/28/09) – Colgate University senior Brandon Corp (Chittenango, N.Y.) scored three times and junior Ian Murphy (Constantia, N.Y.) added two in a 13-9 loss to No. 7-ranked UMBC in men's lacrosse action, Saturday afternoon at UMBC Stadium.

Corp added three assists in the game for a six-point outing, while freshman Chris Zielinski (Lancaster, Pa.) dished out one helper in his two-point outing. Corp extended his scoring streak to 37-games.

Colgate scored first when Zielinski registered his third of the season at the 11:54 mark of the first quarter. UMBC answered back with two goals for 2-1 lead midway through the quarter. Colgate regained the lead after a pair of man-up goals. The Raiders tied the score when junior Zach Craumer (Greenwich, Conn.) recorded his second of the season at 4:56 and then took the lead nearly two-minutes later when Ben McCabe netted his first of the season. Corp assisted both goals as Colgate took a 3-2 lead into the second quarter.

The Retrievers scored early in the second quarter and then took a 4-3 lead by the 7:34 mark. Colgate tied the game 30 seconds later when Murphy recorded his second goal of the season off an assist from Corp.

Corp recorded all three of his goals in the third quarter as the teams swapped goals to a 7-7 tie. Corp gave the Raiders the lead twice in the quarter first 5-4 then 6-5 before tying the score at the end of the quarter.

The teams entered the fourth quarter tied 7-7, but a four goal rally over a seven minute span, including two goals in 12 seconds opened the game for the Retrievers leading to a 13-9 victory. 

Junior Tim Harrington (Lutherville, Md.) tallied 10 stops in goal for Colgate, including turning aside four shots in the third period. Jeremy Blevins posted 13 saves for the Retrievers.

Colgate will returns home next weekend as it hosts Holy Cross, Saturday, March 7.  The game is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
