Kevin Colleluori (Bethpage, N.Y.) scored three times and freshman
Chris Zielinski (Lancaster, Pa.) added a career-high four points in a 11-9 loss to No. 4-ranked North Carolina in men's lacrosse action, Sunday afternoon at Fetzer Field.
Colleluori added an assist in the game for a four-point outing, while Zielinski dished out two helpers in his performance. Senior
Brandon Corp (Chittenango, N.Y.) also recorded a goal to extend his scoring streak to 36-games.
After falling behind 6-0 in the opening period the Raiders came storming back with a four goal performance in the second to enter the locker room, 6-4. Junior Zach Craumer (Greenwich, Conn.) opened the scoring for Colgate at the 12:22 mark with his first goal of the season off an assist from Colleluori. The Raiders then recorded two goals in a 33 second span to narrow the gap, 6-3.
Zeilinski registered his first collegiate goal at the 7:15 mark and was followed by junior
Ryan McClelland (Brampton, Ont.) picking-up the ground ball off the face-off and finding Colleluori alone for his first of the game.
Colgate would end the half with a successful clear to gain possession in the closing minute, leading to Corp's only goal, his 10th of the season.
Colgate opened the second half with a pair of goals early to tie the score 6-6. Zielinski recorded his second of the day 1:50 into the third, after a sharp move left his defender sitting on the ground leaving him a wide open shot. Senior
Nick Monastero (Bohemia, N.Y.) would tie the game two-minutes later as he sliced through the defense for his seventh of the season.
The teams would swap goals over the next four minutes before North Carolina took a two goal lead into the fourth, 9-7.
Sophomore
Rob Bosco (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) trimmed the Tar Heels lead to one, 9-8, with his second of the season but it wasn't enough as North Carolina responded with two goals expanding its lead to 11-8 in the closing minutes. Colleluori would record his third of the day with 24 seconds remaining to make the final score 11-9.
Junior
Tim Harrington (Lutherville, Md.) tallied 15 stops in goal for Colgate, including turning aside six North Carolina shots in the third period. Grant Zimmerman posted nine saves for the Tar heels.
Colgate will stay on the road next week as it travels to UMBC, Saturday, February 28. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
