HAMILTON, N.Y. (8/10/11) – Ashley Obrest, who led the Colgate softball team to its first ever regular season Patriot League title, has been named the head coach of the Boston College softball program.
"We are very pleased to welcome Ashley back to Boston College," said Gene DeFilippo the Director of Athletics at Boston College. "As a former Eagle, she is passionate about our softball program. She has done an outstanding job at Colgate, and we are confident she will do an outstanding job here at Boston College."
Following a two-year stint as the assistant coach, Obrest was promoted to interim head coach of Colgate in December 2010. This past year, the Elmwood Park, Ill. native set a school record for most wins by a first year head coach (27) and led the Raiders to a regular season Patriot League title with a 16-3 conference mark.
Colgate earned numerous honors under Obrest's tutelage.
Rachel LeCoq was voted the Patriot League Pitcher of the Year and a first team All-League selection en route to being named to the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Northeast All-Region second team.
Tera Vaughn was tabbed as the 2011 Patriot League Rookie of the Year, the NCAA Division I Hardest Person to Strike Out and was a first team All-Patriot League selection. The Raiders also had four Patriot League second team honorees and a quartet of Academic Honor Roll selections last season.
Assistant coach Jaime Grillo will serve as interim head coach for Colgate through the 2011-12 season.
