Raiders remain unbeaten in Ellis Rowland Memorial Tournament

HAMILTON – After a close 25-22 first-set loss, Colgate won the next three sets to defeat UAlbany 3-1 on Cotterell Court.

Sets two (25-22) and three (25-23) were close, but the Raiders maintained the advantage before Colgate put the match away with a 25-15 fourth-set victory.




MOMENTS OF THE MATCH
  • The first set was within reach for either team, but UAlbany led for nearly the entire set.
  • Colgate earned the first point, but UAlbany sparked a 6-1 run to take a quick 6-2 lead.
  • The Raiders chipped away at the deficit to trail by one, 11-10, with kills from Tiana Owens, Aubrey Anders and Morgan Reese.
  • Colgate found a swing of momentum with a pair of Raider kills and a service ace from Anders.
  • The Great Danes spurred a 7-1 run to regain the lead, 20-16.
  • Four Raider kills helped Colgate cut the deficit to one, 23-22, but UAlbany finished the set with two kills to take a 1-0 lead.
  • Both teams traded points to start the second set, with UAlbany taking a 4-3 advantage.
  • Kills from Charlotte Goldfeder, Anders and Owens helped Colgate regain the lead briefly before the Great Danes responded with a run to take a 10-9 advantage.
  • Colgate boasted a 9-2 run, capitalizing on a block, six Raider kills and UAlbany errors to take an 18-12 advantage.
  • The Raiders reached set point at 24-17, but the Great Danes earned five straight points to cut the deficit to 24-22. A service error by UAlbany gave Colgate the win in the second set, 25-22.
  • The third set started in the Great Danes' favor with a 6-2 lead, but a block by Anders and Julia Headley spurred Colgate's 8-3 run to take a 10-9 lead.
  • Owens stepped up while serving to help Colgate earn five straight points, including two service aces, to build a 15-11 cushion.
  • UAlbany cut the deficit to one with three straight points, but Colgate still led 18-17.
  • Both teams fought to win the third set, but Headley's kill secured the win for the Raiders, 25-23, putting them ahead 2-1.
  • The Raiders had all the momentum to start the fourth set, taking a 7-0 lead.
  • Colgate dominated the fourth set, with 19 of its points coming from Raider kills. Owens, Reese and Jordyn Moore each had four, while Anders had three and Stella Labrecque and Headley each had two.
  • Colgate outplayed UAlbany in the fourth set, winning 25-15.
NOTES
  • The Raiders lead the all-time series between the two teams 17-8.
  • This marks the first time Anders has led the team in kills this season.
  • Owens has logged double-digit kills in the last three matches.
  • Langton has logged 10 or more digs in all eight matches she has appeared in this season, including back-to-back 20-plus-dig matches.
