Owens and Anders Lead Team With Kills

HAMILTON – Colgate was down early in the count, 2-0, but the Raiders rallied offensively and defensively to complete the reverse sweep over Northeastern on Cotterell Court.

Colgate has faced Northeastern eight times in program history, including three times since 1995. The Huskies defeated the Raiders in their most recent meeting in 2003. Since 1995, the Raiders have gone 3-2 against the Huskies, bringing the overall series record to 4-8.

Colgate was led offensively by Tiana Owens, who recorded her first 20-plus-kill match of the season. Aubrey Anders also contributed to Colgate's success, totaling 16 kills. Owens and Anders combined for seven service aces.

MOMENTS OF THE MATCH

Colgate jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead with kills from Owens and Stella Labrecque, but the Huskies answered to regain the lead, 6-5.
The Raiders then trailed but found ways to tie the match at nine and 12, capitalizing on Northeastern's errors and kills from Morgan Reese and Julia Headley.
Northeastern went on a 6-1 run to take its second-biggest lead of the match, 18-13.
The Raiders tried to rally, but the Huskies scored multiple runs to take the first set, 25-18.
In the second set, Colgate came out with early momentum, using blocks and kills to take a 6-3 lead.
The Huskies accumulated points throughout the set to tie the score at 11.
Both teams traded points before Colgate took an 18-16 advantage on kills from Charlotte Goldfeder and Owens.
Northeastern responded with a four-point run to regain the lead, 20-18.
The teams battled back and forth, with the Huskies holding a 23-22 advantage. Northeastern then closed out the set with back-to-back points, 25-22, to take a 2-0 lead over the Raiders.
Set three started with both teams battling for an early advantage, with the match tied at five.
Anders helped dictate the momentum in the middle of the set, totaling a kill and two service aces to help guide the Raiders on a 13-2 run and give them a 19-9 advantage.
The Huskies closed the gap, taking advantage of Colgate's errors to cut the deficit to 21-18.
Colgate responded with key blocks and kills, and Anders delivered the final kill to give the Raiders the third set, 25-21.
Northeastern opened the fourth set with a 5-0 run.
The Raiders chipped away at the deficit as Owens recorded a kill and a service ace, while Anders totaled three kills to tie the score at 11.
Northeastern went on a three-point run, but Colgate answered with two kills from Owens and a kill from Reese to take a 17-15 lead.
The two teams traded points until Colgate rallied for a late 23-20 advantage.
Reese delivered the final kill of the set as the Raiders won 25-23 to force a fifth and final set.
The Raiders led early, 3-1, but a string of reception errors had Colgate trailing 7-5.
Anders, serving late in the set, helped Colgate earn four straight points to regain the lead, 11-10.
Northeastern responded, earning match point at 14-13, but Owens' kill leveled the score at 14.
Anders' kill gave Colgate set point, and Owens delivered the service ace to help the Raiders prevail, 16-14, and complete the reverse sweep.

NOTES

Colgate has not beaten Northeastern since 1995. The last time the Raiders defeated the Huskies 3-2 was in 1994.
Owens has recorded 10 or more kills in four matches, including one with 20 or more.
Hannah Langton matched a season-high with 25 digs. The last time she totaled that many was in the team's 3-2 win over Morehead State.
The Raiders recorded a season-high 10 total blocks in a match.

The Raiders return to action in less than 24 hours on Saturday against UAlbany at 5 p.m. on Cotterell Court. The match follows Northeastern vs. Dartmouth, which begins at 2 p.m.
