HAMILTON – The Colgate Raiders upset No. 15 Boston U. to grab their first nationally ranked victory this season while handing the Terriers their first conference loss at Andy Kerr Stadium.
The game featured a rematch of the 2025 Patriot League championship, where Colgate earned a 17-10 win over Boston U.
Colgate's fourth-quarter frenzy — outscoring Boston U. 4-1 — along with Andrew Lehrman and Euan McKeever combining for the Raiders' final six saves, led the team to its first conference victory of the season.
Colgate's attack was led by senior captain Hunter Drouin, who notched a season-high five goals and two assists and matched a career-best seven points. The Raiders' offense featured eight different goal scorers, including LSM and defenders Sam Erickson, Thomas Lala and Nick Lancaster.
The Raiders' defensive effort was led by Patty Eldredge and Lala, each forcing three Terrier turnovers. Lehrman, Colgate's starting goalkeeper, earned his second career win, making 15 saves, causing two turnovers and collecting a career-high seven ground balls.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate won the opening draw control, but Boston U. forced a quick Raider turnover and capitalized to take a 1-0 lead within the first minute.Undeterred by the early Terrier action, Lancaster scooped up a loose ball from Colgate's defensive end and scored on Boston U.'s open net to tie the game 1-1.
Lehrman made three critical saves to keep the score even, allowing Colgate to score three more goals. Drouin fired off three goals in a five-minute span to notch a first-quarter hat trick and put the Raiders up 4-1.The Terriers added a late goal in the first to cut the deficit to 4-2 entering the second quarter.
Boston U. had the ball to start the second and scored within the first 15 seconds to cut the deficit to one. The Raiders responded immediately as Lala scored his first collegiate goal, assisted by Eldredge.The two teams traded goals again, with the Terriers scoring first, followed by Casey Quinson scoring for the Raiders to make it 6-4.
Boston U. gained momentum with a midquarter surge, using a 3-0 run — including two even-strength goals and one man-up opportunity — to take its first lead of the game and enter halftime ahead 7-6.
An action-packed third quarter saw each team score four goals. Colgate opened with a 3-0 run on goals by Eldredge, Freddy Fowler and Quinson.Boston U. answered with a goal just under the 12-minute mark, but Drouin capitalized on a man-up opportunity to give Colgate a 10-8 lead and record his fourth goal of the game.Colgate's aggressive play late in the third led to two penalties. The Terriers scored on both possessions and added another goal to regain an 11-10 lead.
In a pivotal fourth quarter, the Terriers scored their fourth straight goal to take their largest lead of the game at 12-10.The comeback began when John Carrabine scooped up a Terrier turnover and scored from the Raiders' defensive end to cut the deficit to 12-11. Boston U. won the next faceoff but turned the ball over immediately, allowing Colgate to tie the game on Drouin's fifth goal.
The Terriers committed their third consecutive turnover, caused by Lala, leading to the go-ahead goal for the Raiders. Drouin threaded a pass to Quinson, who scored Colgate's 13th goal to give the Raiders a 13-12 lead.Lehrman made three critical saves, including one while Colgate was a man down. Erickson's goal, assisted by Drouin, gave Colgate a 14-12 lead with 30 seconds remaining.
The Terriers fired three rushed shots in an attempt to cut the deficit, but saves by Lehrman and McKeever secured the 14-12 upset victory for Colgate.
