Raiders Fall on Senior Day to Navy, 73-63

Colgate shot 50.9 percent from the floor

HAMILTON —
Colgate fell to Navy 73-63 on Senior Day in its final home game of the season at Cotterell Court. The Raiders recognized their six seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program.

For the second time this season, Colgate shot 50 percent from the field. The hot shooting continued in the final two quarters, as the Raiders went 8 of 13 (61.5 percent) in each.

Eight Raiders finished shooting 50 percent or better, led by Ella Meabon with 19 points, Madison Schiller with 11 and Grace Klag, who recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game opened with intensity from both sides as the Raiders established an early lead behind Grace Klag. Navy quickly responded, tying the game and taking the lead with baskets from Zanai Barnett-Gay and Quinn Boettinger.

Ella Meabon brought Colgate back into contention with a 3-pointer, tying the score at 8-8. However, the Mids pulled ahead and closed the first quarter on a 7-0 run in the final 90 seconds to take a 20-12 lead.

Navy extended its advantage with a 24-14 second quarter. Early jumpers from Klag and Meabon helped Colgate trim the deficit to six at 22-16.

A mid-quarter 6-0 run pushed Navy's lead back to double digits at 28-16. Colgate found success attacking the lane, adding three layups and a trip to the free-throw line to chip away at the deficit.

Barnett-Gay proved pivotal late in the half, knocking down a key 3-pointer to give Navy a 44-26 lead at halftime.

Colgate outscored its opponent 18-15 in the third quarter. Over the first five minutes, the Raiders cut the deficit to single digits, pulling within 50-41 after a 14-6 run.

Navy responded late in the quarter, capitalizing on points in the paint and at the free-throw line to extend its lead to 59-44 entering the final 10 minutes.

Colgate again chipped away in the fourth, outscoring Navy 19-14. Meabon sparked the effort with two free throws and a jumper, while Madison Schiller added a jumper and Klag contributed inside.

In the final moments, Kennedy Parrott hit a jumper and Taye Matthews connected on a 3-pointer, but Navy secured the 73-63 victory behind its dominant first-half performance.
