Colgate Drops Home Opener to Loyola, 13-11

Quinson notched his second four-goal game of the season

HAMILTON — In a closely contested game that featured five lead changes, the Colgate Raiders were edged by the Loyola Greyhounds in the final quarter, 13-11.

Casey Quinson had a field day on the offensive end, scoring four goals, including three in the first half. Andrew Kiefer and Emmet Crotty each added two goals for Colgate.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The first quarter began with a faceoff win for Colgate. Both teams exchanged goal-scoring opportunities before Colgate's Casey Quinson scored the first goal of the game at 9:52 during a man-up opportunity, assisted by Quinn Spillett.

Loyola quickly responded with three unanswered goals to take a 3-1 lead. The Raiders narrowed the gap when Crotty scored unassisted at 1:27. However, Kenan Everhart scored for the Greyhounds with 18 seconds remaining to extend the lead.

The quarter concluded with Colgate long-stick midfielder John Carrabine scoring with seven seconds left, assisted by Sam Erickson, cutting the deficit to 4-3.

Colgate opened the second quarter with momentum as Andrew Kiefer and Patty Eldredge each scored to give the Raiders a 5-4 lead.

The Greyhounds responded with a pair of goals from Mason Cook, including one on a man-up opportunity, tying the game at 6-6.

Colgate regained control late in the quarter with two goals from Quinson, and Crotty added another to end the half with Colgate in front, 8-7.

In a low-scoring third quarter, Hunter Drouin scored Colgate's fourth consecutive goal with three minutes remaining, giving the Raiders their largest lead of the game, 9-7.

The Greyhounds answered with two goals, including a man-up score, to tie the game at 9 heading into the final 15 minutes.

In the fourth quarter, each time Colgate took a one-goal lead, Loyola responded with the equalizer. With the game tied at 11, Cook scored twice more to secure a 13-11 victory for the Greyhounds.

Andrew Lehrman concluded his showing in net making 10 saves.
Colgate outshot Loyola 51-36, placing 27 shots on target.
Of Colgate's 11 goals, seven were solo efforts to put the ball in the net.
