Ferguson’s Final Shot Seals Victory for Raiders, 68–66

Colgate splits the series 1–1 with Lehigh

HAMILTON —
Ella Meabon's final drive and dish to Abbey Ferguson helped Colgate edge past Lehigh, 68–66.

With a decisive 24-point third quarter fueled by a 7–0 Raider run, Colgate recaptured the lead. The Raiders also capitalized on turnovers, scoring 20 points off 19 Mountain Hawk giveaways.

Eight different Raiders scored, led by Meabon, Taye Matthews, and Madison Schiller, who all finished in double figures. As a team, Colgate shot nearly 42 percent from the field and 36 percent from beyond the arc.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Colgate battled throughout the contest and never allowed Lehigh to lead by more than five points, a margin reached within the opening minute.

Momentum shifted in the Raiders' favor coming out of halftime, as Schiller converted a layup to give Colgate a 31–30 lead. Lehigh's Belle Bramer answered with a 3-pointer, but baskets from Meabon and Schiller, followed by a 3-pointer from Amarah Streiff, put Colgate ahead 38–33.

Lehigh responded with brief spurts of energy, tying the game at 44, but Meabon's and-one play helped Colgate regain control for the remainder of the quarter. The Raiders shot nearly 59 percent (10-of-17) from the floor during the period.

Colgate built its largest lead of the game at nine early in the fourth quarter. Four Raiders scored within a minute and a half to extend the advantage to 62–53.

The Mountain Hawks answered with urgency, scoring 11 unanswered points. Colgate went scoreless for five minutes, missing seven shots and falling behind 64–62.

Schiller tied the game at 64, but Bramer converted a layup to put Lehigh back in front. Meabon, who finished 7-of-16 shooting, delivered in the final minute, tying the game for the seventh time at 66.

A missed Lehigh layup gave Colgate possession in the closing seconds. Meabon took the inbound, drew two defenders, and dished to Ferguson, who finished high off the glass to give Colgate a 68–66 lead with 0.8 seconds remaining.

Colgate sealed the win by stealing Lehigh's inbound pass. The Raiders' defense set the tone early, forcing 19 turnovers, including 10 in the first half.

In a back-and-forth matchup, Colgate trailed 17–14 after the first quarter and 30–29 at halftime before closing out the game for the victory.
