Slow First Half Proves Costly for Raiders

Three of the Six Raider Treys Came in the Fourth Quarter

HAMILTON —
Colgate outscored Army 20–17 in the final quarter, but a stagnant offense in the first half stunted the Raiders' ability to overcome the deficit, falling 81–49 to the Black Knights.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Colgate fell behind early, 7–2, but a short Black Knight run was halted when Ella Meabon and Christina Midgette each scored a bucket. Army drove the lane for two more points, but Madison Schiller matched its energy, scoring a layup the next possession down to trail by three, 13–10. For the final three minutes of the quarter, the offensive was on Army's side as they pushed for a 10-point advantage, leading 20–10.

Army continued its offensive surge, outscoring the Raiders 22–5. Colgate was blanked for about seven and a half minutes of play before Taye Matthews hit a trey on an assist by Schiller to trail 27–13. Army hit a pair of free throws in transition, and Meabon followed with a driving layup, but the Raiders were behind going into halftime, 42–15.

The Raiders generated offensive momentum out of the half with Meabon adding a basket and Amarah Streiff nailing her first three of the game. The Raiders' run was halted by a Black Knight 9–0 surge to extend its lead 53–20. Midgette contributed four more points in the paint and at the free throw line, but the Raiders trailed by a 35-point gap going into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Army maintained its lead, but the Raiders showed resilience with a balanced offensive effort. Taye Matthews scored early in the quarter with a layup. This marked Matthews' fifth time leading the team in scoring. Grace Klag added a jumper on an assist from Meabon. Despite Army's Brooke Wilson converting a layup and free throw shortly after, Laila Hankerson kept the Raiders competitive, scoring two three-pointers, but it was not enough as Colgate dropped its first conference loss 81–49 to Army.
