Offensive Success Leads to 3–0 Sweep Over Army

The Raiders did not let up a set to remain undefeated in Patriot League play.

HAMILTON — Colgate's offensive domination led to a 3–0 sweep against Army West Point at Cotterell Court. The Raiders owned the net with a .330 attack percentage, outmatching the Black Knight's .128. 

COACH BAKER'S COMMENTS
"I loved our team's competitiveness and defensive effort tonight. It was one of those matches where we had a lot of things clicking. Army is well-coached and always plays hard and today was no different. We need to reset and get ready for another tough league match."

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 (Colgate 25, Army 15)
  • Colgate surged ahead 6-2 with a series of kills from Tiana Owens, Milan Bayless, and Lal Akin.
  • The Dark Knights earned a quick four points to close the gap but, the Raiders extended their lead to 15–7.
  • In the eight-point run, Colgate capitalized on five kills, a Dark Knight service error, and two attacking errors. 
  • A service ace from Julia Oster and a kill from Bayless helped Colgate widen the margin to 21-10.
  • Colgate closed the set with a 25–15 victory, following a service error from Army.  
Set 2 (Colgate 25, Army 17)
  • Army started strong, taking an 8–6 lead as multiple Dark Knights stepping up to earn kills.
  • Colgate responded with a series of kills from Owens and Bayless, leveling the score at 15–15.
  • A late 5–0 run by the Raiders, capped by a Frances Torres kill, pushed them ahead 19–15.
  • Colgate closed the set with a decisive service ace from Ava Schabes, securing a 25–17 victory.  
Set 3 (Colgate 25, Army 20)
  • Colgate gained an early edge, moving ahead 7–4 after consecutive kills by Bayless and an attack error by Army.  
  • The Raiders extended their lead to 11–5 from an early 4–0 run, thanks to Bayless and Maddie Rudolph notching kills. 
  • The Dark Knights rallied as they trailed by two points in the middle of the match, 15–13.
  • Momentum swung in the Raiders' favor as the team earned five unanswered points to push their lead to 20–13. 
  • Army mounted a late rally, narrowing the gap to 24–20 with a string of kills from Chloe Murakami.
  • Colgate secured the set 25–20 with a final kill from Bayless, taking a commanding position in the match.  

GAME NOTES
  • Bayless led the home team's offense with 19 kills and added 12 digs, finishing with 20.5 points over three sets. 
  • Rudolph posted a .667 hitting percentage with eight kills and contributed seven digs, totaling 10 points. In an impressive defensive showing, she also notched a career-best seven digs. 
  • Schabes directed the attack with 19 assists and also contributed eight digs. 
  • Oster was strong defensively, recording 16 digs and adding two service aces. 
  • Morgan Reese logged her first career service ace, adding to Colgate's strong serving performance.

UP NEXT
Colgate holds an overall record of 10–5 and a perfect 5-0 mark in Patriot League play. With a quick turnaround, the Raiders will host Holy Cross tomorrow at 2 p.m.
