Colgate Extends Win Streak Over Holy Cross

The Raiders have not dropped a set to Holy Cross since 2020.


HAMILTON — Colgate swept Holy Cross 25–18, 25–13, 25–20 on Sunday at Cotterell Court. The Raiders dominated with a .383 hitting percentage and recorded nine service aces. Their defense also contributed significantly, with 39 digs and seven total blocks, helping them cruise to a 3–0 victory. 


HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 (Colgate 25, Holy Cross 18)
  • The Raiders took an early 7–2 lead, spurred by three kills from Jordyn Moore and a service ace by Julia Oster.  
  • Maddie Rudolph's kill from Deren Cukur extended the Raiders' advantage to 13–6.  
  • The Crusaders narrowed the gap to 17–13 with a Crusader ace and kill.
  • The Raiders extended their lead by seven, 20–13, after Rudolph's kill and back-to-back service aces from Carlie Rzeszotarski
  • The Raiders closed the set 25–18, highlighted by Milan Bayless's decisive kill and Moore's final point.  

Set 2 (Colgate 25, Holy Cross 13)
  • The Raiders initiated the set with five kills and a service ace to jump to a quick 6–2 advantage.
  • Sharing the wealth offensively, Colgate's Bayless and Rzeszotarski combined for three kills, as Rudolph and Rzeszotarski added a service ace each to lead 11–4.
  • The Crusaders managed a brief rally, but the Raiders maintained control.
  • Rudolph's consistent performance, including several kills, propelled the Raiders to close the set 25–13.  

Set 3 (Colgate 25, Holy Cross 20)
  • The Crusaders surged to a 7–1 lead, capitalizing on two service aces.  
  • The Raiders responded with a series of kills, and first-year Sophia Towle notched her first career kill, narrowing the gap to 10–9.  
  • A block by Rzeszotarski and Rudolph helped the Raiders flip the script and take the lead at 14–13.
  • Bayless sealed the set for the Raiders with a series of five decisive kills, ending the set 25–20.  

GAME NOTES
  • Bayless led the Raiders' offense with 21 kills on 33 attempts, achieving an impressive hitting percentage of .606 and contributing 23.5 points. 
  • Rudolph added nine kills and four blocks, while also serving two aces and logging an overall total of 12 points. 
  • Ava Schabes facilitated the attack with 18 assists across three sets. 
  • Deren Cukur supported the team's defensive efforts with nine digs and distributed 19 assists.

UP NEXT
The Raiders hold an 11–5 overall record and remain undefeated in Patriot League play at 6–0. Colgate will travel to play Patriot League foes Navy on Friday at 6 p.m. and Lehigh on Saturday at 4 p.m.
