Raiders Fall 4-2 for First Loss of the Season

UAlbany holds the overall series, 13-3

HAMITLON – The Raiders had the early offensive momentum and led at halftime, but UAlbany surged in the fourth quarter to top Colgate 4-2, handing the Raiders their first loss of the season on Tyler's Field.

Morgan Willis led the charge, scoring both goals for the Raiders, while Marissa Buck made her second start in the cage for Colgate and played all 60 minutes.



MOMENTS OF THE MATCH
  • The first quarter was stagnant, with the only shot coming from Colgate's Willis, which was saved by the Great Danes goalkeeper.
  • The second quarter featured more action as UAlbany took nine shots, with Buck making four saves to preserve a clean sheet in the first half. Annie Lake also contributed a defensive save to keep the Great Danes scoreless.
  • In the 23rd minute, Maddie Rohlfing inserted a penalty corner to Aiden Cronk, who laid it off to Willis. Willis fired the shot into the back of the net to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead before halftime.
  • Intensity rose coming out of the break, but the third quarter remained low-scoring, with the Great Danes outshooting the Raiders 3-1.
  • UAlbany found the equalizer in the 43rd minute off a loose ball following a save by Buck, with the Great Danes tapping the ball into the back of the net to tie the game at 1-1.
  • The Great Danes earned five penalty corners in the final quarter, scoring on three attempts to take a 4-1 lead.
  • The Raiders responded with a penalty corner of their own, with Willis scoring her second goal of the game, assisted by Lauren Widdowson and Kyleigh Welusz.
  • As time dwindled, the deficit was too large for Colgate to overcome, as the Raiders fell 4-2.
NOTES
  • Willis scored her third and fourth goals of the season, including her second consecutive game with two or more goals.
  • Lake recorded her first defensive save of the season and now has six in her career.
  • Colgate scored two goals against UAlbany. The last time the Raiders scored against the Great Danes was in 2022.
  • The Raiders now have 11 goals through three games to start the season. The team had never scored more than nine goals through three games to start a season.
