Box Score EASTON, Pa. - Colgate (3-8, 1-0) started off their Patriot League campaign in dominant fashion, defeating Lafayette (5-5, 0-1) in three straight sets on Friday night in Easton, Pa.
The Raiders played a complete match, finishing with a .385 hitting percentage, along with 42 kills. Colgate was led by Milan Bayless' 16 kills, Deren Cukur's 15 assists, and Sydney Jones' three service aces. Abby Shadwick also had a huge impact on the defensive side for the Raiders, contributing 10 digs, along with ten kills on the offensive end. Â

"This was a great team win. I felt we had a strong effort from everyone and it resulted in some solid transition play. I'm happy for this team - they've trusted the process and are believing in what we are doing. Â
We have a very tough match against a very talented Lehigh team tomorrow."
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 | Colgate 25, Lafayette 17
The Leopards jumped out to an early 14-10 advantage, led by a combination of strong serving and high percentage hitting. However, Colgate rallied and played mistake free volleyball for the rest of the set to take it 25-17. Frances Torres had three kills, but the hero of the set was Bayless with her nine kills and one ace.Â
Set 2 | Colgate 25, Lafayette 13
Colgate ran with their momentum from the first set, as they held a comfortable lead for the rest of the second set after starting down 4-6. The Raiders were led by a strong hitting percentage of .444 for the set and only had two attack errors. Jones was everywhere in this set, where she had one kill and five assists.Â
Set 3 | Colgate 25, Lafayette 13
Lafayette once again held a slim lead at the beginning of the third set, leading 5-3, but the Raiders stormed back to dominate yet another set. Colgate took advantage of eight Lafayette attack errors, while having three service aces and four blocks of their own to finish the match off.Â
