Raiders Sweep Princeton

Colgate sweeps Princeton for first time since 1993

HAMILTON – Colgate delivered a well-rounded performance, outperforming Princeton in every statistical category to earn a 3-0 sweep in its second match of the Colgate Volleyball Classic.

Colgate logged more points (56-40), kills (45-32), aces (7-4), assists (42-29) and digs (32-27) than the Tigers.

Tonight's win marks the first time Colgate has beaten Princeton since 2003. Colgate won 3-2 in '03. Since then, the teams have played seven times, but the Raiders broke the streak with their 3-0 sweep.

MOMENTS OF THE MATCH
  • To start the first set, Colgate earned points off Princeton's service errors, but the Tigers went on a five-point run to take a quick 13-6 lead.
  • Jordyn Moore's kill helped Colgate embark on an eight-point run to regain the lead.
  • Julia Oster subbed into the game to serve, helping the Raiders total four kills while notching a service ace herself to take a 15-14 lead.
  • Feeding off the energy, Colgate finished the first set on top, 25-21, with the team totaling seven kills. Charlotte Goldfeder notched three kills and two service aces.
  • In the second set, the Tigers jumped out to a 4-1 lead, but Princeton's attacking error and a pair of Raiders' kills leveled the score at six.
  • Four lead changes occurred midway through the set before back-to-back kills by Stella Labrecque gave the Raiders the advantage for the remainder of the set, putting them ahead 15-13.
  • In a closely contested second set, the remainder of Colgate's points came from seven kills, with Moore leading the way with three straight. Labrecque and Owens added a block, Morgan Reese recorded a service ace, and one Princeton attacking error helped the Raiders take the second set, 25-23.
  • All the momentum was in Colgate's favor to start the third set, as multiple Raiders contributed points from kills, blocks and service aces to take a 6-1 lead.
  • Princeton made a short run, cutting the deficit to three points at 11-8, but the Tigers' attacking errors and a kill from Owens kept the Raiders ahead, 15-12.
  • A short Raider burst featuring kills from Reese, Owens and Goldfeder pushed Colgate to a 21-15 advantage.
  • Owens delivered the final two kills as Colgate took the third set, 25-18, and earned its first sweep and second win of the season.
NOTES
  • Colgate had three players finish the night with double-digit kills: Owens (11), Moore (11) and Goldfeder (10).
  • Labrecque has totaled at least three blocks in each of the last three games. She has 13 on the season, leading the team.
  • Reese led the charge with two service aces, while five other Raiders each registered one.
  • Ava Schabes and Hannah Langton combined for 21 of the Raiders' 32 digs on the night.
  • This is the eighth time Colgate has beaten Princeton in the series and the second time the Raiders have swept the Tigers. The last time Colgate swept Princeton was in 1993.
