HAMILTON – First-year forward
Emma Pais was voted ECAC Rookie of the Year, the league announced on Thursday night. After racking up 31 points this season, the third-highest point total ever produced by a Colgate first-year, Pais was chosen as only the second player in program history to win the award.
"Emma's had an immediate impact since joining our program as a Raider," head coach Greg Fargo said. "She's an exceptional talent with a bright future and I'm pleased she's been recognized as the Rookie of the Year in the ECAC. I've always known her to have a very high standard for herself and her teammates and she certainly has the ability to inspire both her teammates and future players alike."
The first-year phenom raked in plenty of awards this season on both the national and league levels. After suiting up for Team Canada in the Collegiate Series in August, Pais went on to win ECAC Rookie of the Week three times in a Colgate uniform.
She was also crowned the conference's Rookie of the Month in both November and January, where she also picked up a Hockey Commissioners Association (HCA) Rookie of the Month nod in the first month of the new year.
Pais was named to the HCA Rookie of the Year Watchlist back in January and remains in contention for the national award as she currently sits in the top five for most points scored by a rookie skater so far this season. She also ranks fourth in the NCAA for most goals tallied by a first-year with 16, a number that tops the ECAC.
Pais will continue her stellar first season this weekend as the Raiders compete in the ECAC Semifinals against Cornell on Friday at 2 p.m. in the Class of 1965 Arena. The winner will advance to the championship game at 5 p.m. on Saturday to play either Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
