ANNAPOLIS, Md. — Colgate narrowly fell to Navy on Saturday, dropping a 10-9 decision for its Patriot League loss of the season.
"Great Patriot League battle today. I loved our fight and our poise throughout the entire game. We were disciplined, we were battling for ground balls, and we did a lot of good things out there," said head coach
Matt Karweck.
"We needed the ball to bounce our way, and it didn't. That's what you get as you enter the latter half of the season. For us, we need to get back to work this week, learn the lessons, and be better as we look forward to an excellent Army team ahead."
The Raiders cut the lead to one at 10-9 with 28 seconds left in the fourth after Drouin notched his third of the contest, 12 seconds after the Midshipmen pushed their advantage to two. Drouin had done the same just over a minute before to make it 9-8.
Rory Connor also put one in at the 8:26 mark of the quarter.
The third began with a rip from
Jack Turner, making it 5-3 Colgate a minute and a half in. Navy then went on a 3-0 run to take a 6-5 advantage. The Raiders answered with a tally from
Ben Trumble with 3:19 left, but the Mids added another to go up 7-6.
Navy also netted three in a row to end the second, making it 4-3 Raiders at halftime. Turner scored Colgate's lone goal in the quarter at the 8:06 mark, firing a missile from 15 yards out.
The Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first, with
Michael Minicus and Drouin scoring in the opening six minutes.
Ryan Favaro then found the back of the net with just over two minutes remaining.
Drouin led Colgate with four points behind three goals and an assist.
Aidan Murnane logged a team-best four caused turnovers, while
Max Yates,
Kyle Rummel, and Favaro scooped up five ground balls each.
Matt LaCombe held Navy scoreless for the entire first and over half of the second. He finished with 13 saves in goal.
