LEWISBURG, Pa. — Colgate powered by Bucknell 17-4 Saturday afternoon for its third-straight Patriot League win.
The Raiders allowed just one goal in the final three quarters while recording a season-high 17 goals total.
Goalie
Matt LaCombe allowed four goals, a career low, and made 14 saves. The Raiders' defensive efforts were led by
Max Yates, who tied his career-best with five caused turnovers while scooping up eight ground balls. LaCombe,
Sam Erickson, and
John Carrabine also logged two caused turnovers.
"First, and I told him this after the game today, Coach Fed has my utmost respect. It's taken a long time to get the best of him and that Bucknell squad. I'm honored to get that win," said head coach
Matt Karweck.
"Secondly, I could not be prouder of the way we played today. We made the simple plays, we made the consistent plays, and we made the tough plays, all over the field," he added. "Lastly, I'm so blessed to have such an amazing staff. They believe in how we want to play, coach their tails off, and love, inspire, and encourage our athletes to be their best versions of themselves everyday. It's truly special."
Jack Turner (4G, 1A) and
Hunter Drouin (2G, 3A) each tallied five points, while
Michael Minicus and
Griffin Walker registered two goals.
Colgate opened the game by scoring on each of its first three possessions.
Aidan Murnane opened it up 21 seconds in, and Minicus followed 50 seconds later.
Kyle Rummel won the face off following Minicus' goal and took it to the house, making it 4-0 Raiders a minute and 20 seconds in. Rummel went 11-of-22 from the face off x while picking up seven ground balls.
Following a Bison tally, the Raiders responded with two more coming from first-year
Liam Connor and a first career goal from a fellow rookie in Carrabine. Minicus got Colgate's final tally of the quarter, putting one in with a minute and 11 seconds remaining, helping his team take a 6-3 lead at the first break.
The Raiders opened the second with Turner finding the back of the net 1:12 into the quarter. Walker got his name on the scoresheet with 7:17 left before Turner notched his second 34 seconds later and
Rory Connor followed shortly after.
In the third, Colgate got five more goals. Turner and Drouin recorded tallies in the opening eight minutes. Walker and
Ryan Favaro then scored a minute and a half from each other to push the advantage to double digits at 14-3 with 2:28 left. Drouin ended the quarter with another.
Turner registered his fourth at the 10:50 mark of the fourth, and
Cam Essensa netted the first of his career with 45 seconds remaining.
