PHILADELPHIA - The Colgate women's lacrosse team fell in its season opener to Temple, 11-5 at Howarth Field on Saturday morning.
Lauren Solis played all 60 minutes in goal finishing with 17 saves.
COACH TAYLOR'S COMMENTS
"Very proud of how we battled today against a talented Temple team. Lauren Solis played lights out in front of our new zone but unfortunately we had too many unforced errors that caused us to play defense a great deal. You just cannot give the ball back to your opponents like we did and expect a different outcome but we will learn from the experience. This week we will fix our mistakes and continue to evolve offensively. Lots of good stuff to build on!"
HOW IT HAPPENED
The season kicked off with a strong defensive effort from both sides until Colgate got on the board first with a goal from Devon Maillet with 6:22 left in the first quarter. Temple scored two unanswered to take the lead into the second quarter.
The second quarter saw more action as Temple increased their lead to two before goals from Caroline Panzirer and Kait Henning kept the Raiders within striking distance. Temple maintained a two goal lead into half.
Panzirer scored the Raiders lone third quarter goals as Temple used a four goal third quarter to push their lead to 9-4 after three quarters.
Lucy Licata added a goal for Colgate in the fourth but it wasn't enough as the Raiders fell 11-5.
The Raiders offense was led by Panzirer with two goals. Kyra Lucey provided two assists on the day.
